The Estonian University of Life Sciences (EMU) organised a series of field-based trainings in Estonia within the framework of the SUNRISE project. The activities were implemented in the context of the Estonian Agroecology Living Lab (AELL) and focused on organic arable crops, soil fertility, biodiversity, and cover cropping practices.
The trainings combined expert presentations with field visits, offering participants the opportunity to exchange knowledge and explore SUNRISE innovations directly in organic farming environments.
9 July 2025 – Obinitsa, Võru County
The first training took place at the organic fields of SK AGRO OÜ, a member of the Estonian AELL where SUNRISE innovations are tested. The programme addressed soil fertility management through crop rotation, green manures and cover crops, as well as biodiversity-friendly farming practices. Participants also visited Mardimäe OÜ, discussing organic production technologies with researchers and farmers.
15 July 2025 – Jändja, Järva County
The second training focused on organic arable crops as SUNRISE innovation activities. After short expert inputs on soil fertility, crop diversification and biodiversity, participants visited the organic fields of Raismikuoja OÜ, where production technologies and practical challenges were discussed on site.
21 October 2025 – Varstu, Võru County
The third training addressed cover crops, one of the innovation topics in SUNRISE. Participants visited the fields of Trimerol OÜ, exploring winter cereals and cover crop systems and discussing about production technologies.
All three trainings highlighted the role of the Estonian AELL as a space for collaboration between researchers and farmers, supporting the co-creation, testing and dissemination of agroecological practices.
